Inspired by research showing that Congress often represents wealthy donors instead of the average American (Gilens and Page 2014), he set out to understand why the system favors elites and what it would take to make Congress work for everyone.

He has taught politics courses at the University of Kentucky, Centre College, and Eastern Kentucky University, giving him first-hand experience explaining how government works — and sometimes doesn’t work — for everyday people. Since August 2025, he has returned to the University of Kentucky as a lecturer in the Department of Political Science and its Law and Justice program.

Dr. Lynch is running as an independent with the support of a new political group, The Kentucky Party. As an economic populist, he is committed to representing the interests of average Kentuckians and Americans across the country.

Right now, most members of Congress rely heavily on large donations from wealthy donors. In 2024, only 7 of 435 House members raised more than half of their campaign funds from small contributions under $200, and no member raised more than 75% of their funding from average Americans. Dr. Lynch’s campaign is built on a different approach: relying on support from ordinary voters to give all Americans a stronger voice in government.

His priorities in Congress will focus on the middle class and working families. Beyond legislation, he plans to educate the public about how Congress can better serve all Americans, strengthen accountability, and reduce the influence of money in politics.
